WASHINGTON - Poder Latinx celebrates this year’s civic health month with El Poder de tu Salud, a campaign driving attention to healthcare topics impacting the Latinx community and the role that civic engagement can play in these issues. The month will be dedicated to activities that will increase awareness on how the participation of patients and healthcare workers in the electoral process can impact their lives and that of communities at large. The events will feature expert speakers who have created resources that will educate Latinx communities on the importance of maintaining and strengthening health, educational issues, and voting efforts.

Read MoreORLANDO, FL - Yesterday, Florida legislators voted in favor of passing Senate Bill 1718, which contains policies that will impact Florida’s immigrant community. This bill has been one of the many parts of Governor DeSantis's legislative attacks on the immigrant community. House Representatives introduced common-sense amendments to SB 1718, many of which would have protected mixed-status families, DACA recipients, a patient’s right to privacy, and more. Of the 18 proposed changes to SB 1718, all were voted down by the majority. As of now, SB 1718 will go into effect on July 1, 2023.
Read MoreORLANDO, FL - As of today, the Florida House and Senate have passed Senate Bill 7050, an election-reform bill, presenting several proposed changes to the state’s Elections Code. One of the provisions includes restrictions and penalties for third-party voter registration organizations (3PVROS), of which there are nearly 2,000 active 3PVROs registered in Florida. This bill includes a provision in which the individuals collecting or handling voter registration applications on behalf of a 3PVRO must be a citizen of the United States. A violation of this could result in an organization being fined $50,000 for each non-citizen handling voter registrations. It would also create a shorter timeline for a voter registration group to return completed forms to county elections offices after they’ve been filled out by a potential voter, and a daily late fee of $50 per late application.
