Healthy democracies are integral to healthy communities.

As we adjust to the new way of life, living with the ongoing pandemic, continued health and economic inequalities, and new challenges to reproductive health and security, Poder Latinx is celebrating this year’s Civic Health Month by driving attention to a continuous number of health care topics impacting the Latinx community. Our El Poder de Tu Salud campaign is aligned with and celebrates collective efforts as part of Civic Health Month, a project of Vot-ER, which aims to bridge the gap between healthcare, community, and democracy.

During this month, we will largely center around the theme that healthy democracies are integral to healthy communities. Our program consists of events geared towards educating Latinxs on the importance of maintaining and strengthening our community’s health while leading civic engagement efforts to ensure that every voter is able to use the ballot box as a tool to improve our communities health and democracy. We will apply a community health and health equity lens to explore issues disproportionately impacting the Latinx community, for instance, COVID-19, paid sick and family leave, reproductive justice, and environmental justice.
