about the fellowship
PODEROSAS
We are building a network of support for a new generation of Latinas to educate and mobilize their local communities to close the gap in civic participation and increase the political representation of Latinxs in the U.S.
ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP
The Poderosas fellowship is a part of Poder Latinx's community empowerment programs designed to provide leadership development and inspire Latinas across key electoral states to use civic engagement tools to increase voter participation in their communities for the 2020 elections and beyond. Our vision is for every Poderosa fellow to have the necessary tools to educate and engage their local communities to help close the gap in civic participation and increase Latinx's political representation in the U.S.
The fellowship will prepare and cultivate the Latina electorate as long term agents of change. Through a continuum of civic and voter engagement opportunities – starting with online, grassroots organizing, and leadership development – we are building a culture of civic participation among Latinas to shape a national narrative on Latinx lives and elevate issues important to our constituency. By grounding the work in the development of Latina leaders and tying their involvement to matters of local, statewide, and national concern, we ensure a lasting voice for the nation’s fastest-growing demographic.
The inaugural cohort will launch this network in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, and North Carolina. The fellows will follow the academic year, kicking off in September/October and ending the program in August/September 2021.

BECOME A MADRINA
Our goal is to grow the Poderosas Fellowship into every state in the country. To do this, we are relying on the support of Latinas who have been in the civic engagement space and are willing to collectively build a homebase for more Latinas to be civically engaged. The Madrinas are building a new generation of Latinas, passing the baton to younger generations to continue to be voices, faces and catalysts to move our community forward. Sign up the interest form below to learn more about how to become a Madrina to our 2020 Poderosas Cohort.
IMPORTANT: Madrinas are recognized Latina leaders who have at least one year of experience in the civic engagement field, are willing to share their journey with the Poderosas Fellows. It is preferred but not required that the Madrinas live in one of the states where the fellows are located.
