NATIONWIDE- For the second year in a row, Poder Latinx will launched National Latina Civic Engagement Day on Monday, November 1 to encourage Latinas across the United States to vote in their municipal elections. This event was inspired by the 2020 election cycle, a general lack of Latinx political representation nationwide, and the knowledge that Latinas are quickly becoming a key voting bloc in the United States. Read MoreNATIONWIDE – Poder Latinx will celebrate Vote Early Day 2021 across several states tomorrow. Vote Early Day is a new civic holiday started by MTV in 2020 to focus on helping voters know where, how, and when they can vote early, and working to ensure that Americans understand and take advantage of their options to vote early this election cycle and beyond. Poder Latinx is a proud founding partner and steering committee member.
Voting early has made civic participation accessible across communities of color. Last year, we saw record numbers in early voting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to record numbers of voters of color, displaying that being able to vote on weekends, or weeks prior to Election Day allows more voters to take part in elections. Despite anti-voting legislation designed to reduce the impact of votes by people of color, Poder Latinx is fighting back with initiatives to encourage more people to vote.
Our organization will be celebrating the holiday with events in Arizona, Florida, and Georgia.
