House Passes Landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill; Build Back Better Act Must Come Next
WASHINGTON- On Friday, the House of Representatives passed the long-awaited $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, a key part of the president’s plan to Build Back Better. The bill will deliver $550 billion of investments in public infrastructure over the next five years, including broadband access; improved water systems, roads and bridges; and modernized energy systems, but lacked sufficient prioritization of climate protections. The president is now urging Congress to pass the Build Back Better Act by November 15.
Poder Latinx has released the following statement on this historic passage:
“The bipartisan infrastructure bill will make critical investments in infrastructure that will impact the Latinx community and beyond for generations with the creation of good-paying union jobs, investments in broadband access, and many other critical components. While this legislation is a landmark implementation of President Biden’s vision, it is now more critical than ever that Congress also move to pass the Build Back Better Act,” said Yadira Sanchez, Co-Executive Director of Poder Latinx.
