NATIONWIDE – Poder Latinx will celebrate Vote Early Day 2021 across several states tomorrow. Vote Early Day is a new civic holiday started by MTV in 2020 to focus on helping voters know where, how, and when they can vote early, and working to ensure that Americans understand and take advantage of their options to vote early this election cycle and beyond. Poder Latinx is a proud founding partner and steering committee member.
Voting early has made civic participation accessible across communities of color. Last year, we saw record numbers in early voting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to record numbers of voters of color, displaying that being able to vote on weekends, or weeks prior to Election Day allows more voters to take part in elections. Despite anti-voting legislation designed to reduce the impact of votes by people of color, Poder Latinx is fighting back with initiatives to encourage more people to vote.
Our organization will be celebrating the holiday with events in Arizona, Florida, and Georgia.
WHEN: *TOMORROW* Thursday, Oct. 14, 1 - 4 p.m. ET
The 'Paid Leave for the People' rally is scheduled to take place at the nation's capital tomorrow, October 14. At a critical moment in the budget negotiations, and with paid leave and childcare being threatened each day, it's time to unite American voices in the fight for paid leave.
WHAT: Communities of color and poorer communities live and work in areas that are more vulnerable to climate change as they lack the resources to adequately prepare for natural disasters, rising temperatures, and increased flooding. Local Georgia environmental organizations will unveil the 2021 Green Cities Georgia, a climate justice policy platform. Local elected leaders have the ability to transform communities by addressing the climate issues that impact everyday lives. This platform is intended to help voters and candidates learn more about the environmental issues and opportunities we face locally, and the immediate actions that leaders can take
