Poder Latinx Relaunches El Poder De Tu Salud Campaign Drawing the Link Between Health and Civic Involvement

WASHINGTON –  Poder Latinx has relaunched its El Poder de tu Salud campaign with a month of activities dedicated to increasing awarenesses about the vaccination of the Latinx community against COVID-19 and advocate for the participation of patients and healthcare workers in the political process to have a say in the decisions that impact their lives and our community at large. This year, our campaign is aligned with and celebrates our collective efforts as part of Civic Health Month, a project of Vot-ER which aims to bridge the gap between healthcare, community, and democracy. Poder Latinx is proud to partner on this momentous project during a critical time for healthcare education and awareness in our community as we provide the Latinx community with vital knowledge and resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The Latinx community has been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program will consist of seven digital conversations, four in English and three in Spanish, featuring four doctors who have created a curriculum geared toward educating the Latinx communities on the importance of maintaining and strengthening health and vaccination efforts.

“By providing information about issues of health, we empower the community to be proactive about their well being. This approach is essential to bridge health disparities and improve health outcomes,” said Dr. Edith Nieves, MD, Pediatrician and Madrina of the Poderosas Fellowship program.

“There is nothing more valuable than our health. Staying healthy is not just about making smart choices but also means having affordable access to medical care. The Latinx community is the most uninsured of any group in the United States which affects quality of life and life expectancy. That will only change by exercising our strength at the ballot box and demanding change,” said Dr. Jose Torradas, MD, FACEP, ER Doctor and Spokesperson, American College of Emergency Physicians.

“We are excited to be leading this critical education opportunity. Our community has experienced the inadequacies of the healthcare system throughout the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately and we need to cultivate our voices into political power to change that,” said Yadira Sanchez, co-executive director of Poder Latinx.
