Poder Latinx Calls on the Latinx Community to Remain an Active Force in Upcoming Electoral Events

Washington, DC - With President Biden’s announcement today that he is ending his bid for reelection and passing the baton to Vice President Kamala Harris, Poder Latinx calls on the Latinx community to renew its commitment to remain as a political force in all upcoming electoral events. With several primaries scheduled in the next weeks and the general election months away, it is more crucial than ever that the Latinx community continues to participate as our vote is a deciding factor in the country’s democratic process.

The following statement can be attributed to Yadira Sanchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx:

"Today's news marks a significant and urgent moment in our nation's political landscape. As we witness political history unfold before us, we must also be thankful for President Biden’s leadership and long trajectory, guided by an unequivocal desire to improve of the lives of millions who call America home, and promote progress on the issues that we advocate for: immigration, economic and environmental justice, and reproductive freedom. 

But we must not lose sight of the importance of our participation and our vote. While decisions are made in the next hours and days ahead of the Democratic Party Convention, it is vital that we, as the Latinx community, stay engaged and make a commitment to be present at the polls. Our voices and our votes are more important than ever.  We have the power and reponsability to shape the future of our country and ensure that our concerns, dreams, and aspirations are represented and respected. Let’s use this power to elect not only our new next president but also officials at all levels who can continue the progress we have experienced and protect us on the issues that matter the most to us.

Our strength as a community will be measured at the ballot box. It's crucial that we make good use of our vote and encourage our family, friends, and neighbors to register to vote, stay informed about the candidates and issues, and cast their ballots. This is the moment to step up, remain steadfast, and make our democracy stronger than ever."
