Poder Latinx Condemns Texas Judge’s Decision to Halt Biden-Harris Family Protections: Calls for Accountability and Voter Action
Washington, DC - In response to yesterday’s decision of a Texas federal judge to temporarily put a hold the Biden-Harris Keeping Families Together Parole in Place program protection that would benefit undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens and their children, the following statement can be attributed to Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx:
“This is unacceptable and hurts the stability and progress of thousands of mixed-status families around the country. At stake is the safety of nearly half a million spouses of American citizens and their children, who are now robbed of the opportunity to keep their families together.
This is not the first time bad actors have separated families and blocked measures that would bring relief to the immigrant community, such as DACA and DAPA, and other protections. These families have underage children who are U.S. citizens, they are workers who contribute to our society and economy. There is nothing "pro-family" about these actions targeting a program that allows mothers, fathers, and their kids to live free from the fear of separation.
Poder Latinx strongly condemns this decision and urges voters to hold our leaders accountable by electing representatives who truly reflect the interests of the Latinx community. Our vote is our voice and it should never be taken for granted."
