Poder Latinx Calls for Protection of Voting Access Following Executive Order on Mail-In Voting
NATIONWIDE — Poder Latinx is raising concerns following the President’s executive order aimed at tightening restrictions on mail-in voting ahead of the 2026 elections.
According to media reports, the order seeks to create a federal list of eligible voters and limit mail-in ballots to those on approved rolls, a move expected to face legal challenges and raising questions about federal authority over state-run elections.
The following statement can be attributed to Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx:
“Communities, especially Latino communities, benefit from having multiple ways to vote, including voting by mail. Mail-in voting is a critical option that helps ensure eligible voters—particularly those working multiple jobs, caring for family, seniors, and those balancing daily responsibilities—can fully participate in our democracy. We should be making voting more accessible, not harder.
Access to voting must be clear, consistent, and protected, not subject to confusion or shifting rules. Any changes that create confusion or limit options risk leaving communities behind and undermining trust in our electoral process.”
With the midterm elections this year, Poder Latinx is calling on leaders at all levels to prioritize transparency, protect voter access, and ensure that every eligible voter has a fair opportunity to participate.
