Poder Latinx Raises Concerns Over Florida SAVE Act and Threats to Voter Access
Orlando, FL — Poder Latinx is raising concerns following Governor Ron DeSantis’s signing of Florida’s version of the SAVE Act, a measure that imposes new documentation requirements to register to vote and is already facing legal challenges from civil rights organizations.
The following statement can be attributed to Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx:
“Policies that add new barriers to voter registration risk shutting out eligible voters, especially working families, seniors, and communities who may not have immediate access to documentation. At a time when participation should be encouraged, this moves us in the opposite direction.
What we’re seeing is a growing disconnect between the people most impacted and the systems meant to serve them. Instead of strengthening trust in our elections, measures like this create confusion, uncertainty, and fear about whether people will be able to make their voices heard.
Latino communities—and all communities—deserve a democracy that is accessible, transparent, and fair. We should be focused on expanding participation, not making it harder for eligible voters to take part in decisions that directly impact their lives.”
Poder Latinx will continue to monitor developments as the law faces legal scrutiny and urges leaders to prioritize voter access, clarity, and confidence in the electoral process.
