Dolores Huerta

Dolores Huerta is an American labor leader and civil rights activist, originally from New Mexico. She is a working mother that organized workers, negotiated contracts, advocated for safer working conditions including the elimination of harmful pesticides. @doloreshuerta also fought for unemployment and healthcare benefits for agricultural workers. She worked with Cesar Chavez, as co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association to achieve #economicjustice . This organization later merged with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee to become the United Farm Workers. In 2003 she founded The Dolores Huerta Foundation to inspire and organize communities to establish volunteer organizations to achieve social justice. She was featured in her own documentary, Dolores in 2017.


Sylvia Rivera

Sylvia Rivera was born in #NYCcity to a father from Puerto Rico & a mother from Venezuela. Sylvia an advocate for those silenced by larger LGBTQ+ movements, & fought against the exclusion of transgender people of color throughout her life. In 1963, Rivera met Marsha P. Johnson, a friend who would change her life. Together, they were actively involved in the Stonewall Inn uprising on June 28, 1969 and fought for the #civilrights of LGBTQ+ people. The Stonewall riots were a series of demonstrations by the LGBTQ+ community in response to police brutality.


Selena Quintanilla-Pérez

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was an American singer, born in Lake Jackson, TX. As a young girl she sang in her family's restaurant. Selena grew up speaking English & learned to speak Spanish from her father. She is often referred to as the "Queen of Tejano music", and her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. She empowered others in the #latinxcommunity to take pride in their unique cultural identities.


Astronaut Ellen Ochoa

Astronaut Ellen Ochoa is the granddaughter of immigrants from Sonora, Mexico. She applied three times before becoming an astronaut in 1990. Later, in 1993 she was the first #Latina to fly in space. She has been a role model to young Latinas everywhere. She travels sharing her groundbreaking experience with students & educators in hopes to empower them to take up space in the careers of #science & #engineering .
