COBB COUNTY, GA - April is recognized as Earth Month. The Latinx community is on the frontlines of the climate crisis, more acutely feeling the effects of climate change and pollution than any other demographic in the United States largely due to where they live and work. Latinxs disproportionately live in areas facing extreme weather conditions and temperatures, poor air and water quality, and overall inequitable access to healthy, sustainable environments. Poder Latinx has pushed for state and federal legislative efforts that take meaningful action to curb the effects of the climate emergency, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Justice40 Initiative.

Read MoreORLANDO, FL - This month, the Florida Senate Ethics and Elections Committee filed Senate Bill 7050, an election-reform bill, presenting several proposed changes to the state’s Elections Code. One of the provisions includes restrictions and penalties for third-party voter registration organizations (3PVROS), of which there are nearly 2,000 active 3PVROs registered in Florida. Some provisions in the policy include a shortened amount of time that a voter registration group has to return completed forms to county elections offices after they’ve been filled out by a potential voter, and a daily late fee of $50 per late application.

Part 1 of 2 is a required informational session for the citizenship clinic being held later in May. The informational session will be held at Ana G Mendez University’s Metro Orlando Campus on Friday, April 28 at 6:30 PM. During the informational session, applicants will be informed of the proper documentation necessary to apply for citizenship and how to prepare for the clinic. A pro-bono attorney will be present to provide free legal consultation and answer additional questions regarding the process ahead of the clinic.
