Transformational Build Back Better Bill Passes, Poder Latinx Continues Mobilization
NATIONWIDE- Today, the United States House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act, reinforcing President Biden’s vision to rebuild American social infrastructure post-pandemic and post-Trump. The Build Back Better Act will invest in real, equitable recovery for the Latinx community, providing us with much needed relief to immigrants, investments to combat climate change, and critical paid leave protections for all American workers, in addition to investments in childcare and senior care, while cutting costs for middle-class families.
Poder Latinx has released the following statement on the passage of the Build Back Better Act:
“The Build Back Better Act is a transformational piece of legislation that will positively impact our community for years to come. We commend the House for passage of the bill and expect the Senate to do the same. Our community cannot wait any longer for paid leave, critical relief for immigrants, and environmental protection. While the pathway to citizenship we have long fought for was not included in the final bill, we know this historic passage will be a catalyst for future discussions and bills. The hope created today will inspire impacted communities across the country to continue fighting for what they know is right, and we are so proud to have played a part in this outcome. We now expect Senate Democrats to vote in favor of the communities of color that elected them in 2020 and rallied around this historic bill's passage. We need Build Back Better and we need it this year,” said Esteban Garces, co-executive director of Poder Latinx.
