After a Week of Contentious Debate, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s SCOTUS Hearing Closes
WASHINGTON – As Women’s History Month comes to an end, Poder Latinx calls on the Senate Judiciary Committee to vote in favor of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. If confirmed, Judge Jackson would be the first Black woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, a huge milestone and a triumph for women of color across America.
The following statement is attributed to Yadira Sanchez, executive director of Poder Latinx.
“As a young Latina, I am proud to see a strong, qualified woman of color in this position, and I can’t help but think of what her confirmation to the Supreme Court will mean for generations of girls of color for years to come. Judge Jackson is one of the brightest legal minds in the country and has the dedication, character, experience, and integrity to uphold the rule of law at our nation’s highest court. Her rich and deep knowledge of the justice system and lived experience as a Black woman make her an exceptional candidate who will bring new and diverse viewpoints to the Supreme Court.
Poder Latinx is proud to stand in support of Judge Jackson, who has proven to be not only supremely qualified but has shown beyond a doubt throughout this hearing that she has the necessary temperament to serve on the nation’s highest court. Despite the gross mistreatment and irrelevant lines of questioning on behalf of some members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Judge Jackson proved that she is here to break new glass ceilings and bring representation to women of color who have never seen themselves reflected in this court. Throughout the hearings, she reiterated her commitment to fairness and impartiality, as well her extensive qualifications for this position.
As Senator Booker said on Wednesday, she has earned this spot, and she is worthy. We urge the Judiciary Committee to vote in favor of Judge Jackson’s confirmation and for the Senate to finalize her confirmation without delay.”
