Poder Latinx Applauds Biden on His Accomplishments, But Calls for More Action
Biden made promises during his State of the Union address, now it is time to act
NATIONWIDE - As President Biden outlined some of his most significant accomplishments during his first State of the Union address, Poder Latinx applauds his achievements but calls on the president to turn his promises into action. Biden recalled the progress he made in the past year, including the American Rescue Plan that helped Americans recover during the pandemic and the bipartisan infrastructure bill that will revitalize our infrastructure and open more jobs for Americans. The president further promised to invest and reform the economy, childcare, environment, renewable energy, and immigration systems, which are key subjects for Poder Latinx.
Poder Latinx has released the following statement on the 2022 State of the Union:
"We commend President Biden's accomplishments during his first year in office, but we need to see more action. The hardships faced during the COVID-19 pandemic continue to affect working-class and low-income families, communities of color, immigrants, and more. Our communities have shown their resilience. However, paid leave, renewable energy investments, and a pathway to citizenship cannot wait longer. Even more, Biden must make voting rights legislation his priority to protect our voices and our democracy," said Yadira Sanchez, executive director of Poder Latinx. "Many of these promises were given during the 2020 presidential election. Now we need to see the administration prioritize them and turn them into action. The president should continue in the same vein as the American Rescue Plan, but he must also enact his promises for everyday Americans. Our communities cannot be left behind."
