Poder Latinx Urges Florida U.S. Senators to Quickly Pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act
WASHINGTON – Poder Latinx urges the U.S. Senators from Florida to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, an urgent and much-needed national measure in response to the Coronavirus pandemic that will protect Americans families during these uncertain times.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act is a piece of legislation that will offer 10 paid sick days and 12 weeks paid leave for many of the workers who are and will be impacted by the virus. Despite the need for even greater relief in the weeks to come, we believe the passing of this bill to be pertinent for small businesses now and urge the Senate to pass it immediately for the President to sign.
“We now have an understanding of how important it is to address fundamental human needs in order to protect whole families and communities—it's clear that we don't have systems in place to protect ourselves in times of crisis, whether personal or national,” said Nancy Batista, Florida State Director with Poder Latinx. “This pandemic lays bare the urgent need for permanent and comprehensive paid family and medical leave in this country.”
In an effort to slow down this pandemic, the country has nearly come to a standstill with members of our community - working families, health care workers, small business owners, and those with disabilities - being most vulnerable to the effects of the economic disruptions caused by this illness. At this time, Poder Latinx is focused on supporting the Act in solidarity with those affected.
Poder Latinx experts Nancy Batista and Socorro Ramos Aviles will be available in Florida to discuss further on the bill with local news.
