Poder Latinx Urges Latino Voters in Texas and North Carolina to Head to the Polls in Primaries That Could Shape November Midterms

Washington, DC – Today, as polls open in Texas and North Carolina, an estimated 6.5 million Latino eligible voters in Texas and hundreds of thousands more in North Carolina are poised to help decide which candidates will appear on the general election ballot and shape policies that impact healthcare, education, wages, immigration, and everyday life. Poder Latinx urges all eligible voters in both states to participate in this crucial election that will mark important races for the midterm elections in November.

The following is a statement attributed to Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx:

“Primary elections may not always get the spotlight, but the candidates who advance today will decide policies that directly affect our communities’ daily lives. From access to healthcare and affordable housing to safe schools, economic stability, and protections for immigrant families, these are decisions that matter. Latino voters have the power to ensure our priorities are represented on the ballot and to influence who will lead our communities into the future.

Our participation today is not abstract.  It determines whether families can access essential services, whether children have opportunities to succeed, and whether communities are supported and safe. As a decisive force in both Texas and North Carolina, Latino voters must make their voices heard. Poder Latinx is proud to provide resources, information, and guidance so our communities can participate fully and confidently in these primaries and in any elections happening later this year.

Primary elections often turn on narrow margins. A relatively small number of voters can decide which candidates advance to the general election and ultimately represent millions of people. By voting, Latino communities help ensure that elected officials understand their realities and work to address their needs.

Every vote is a statement that our families matter and that our communities deserve strong representation. Participating today is an investment in a future where dignity, opportunity, and justice are realities for all.”

Polls are open today across both states, and eligible voters are encouraged to make a plan to cast their ballot before they close this evening.

  • Texas polls are open today from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CT.

  • North Carolina polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST
