Poder Latinx Marks Earth Day 2026 with Community Events Across Seven States Focused on Climate Justice and Energy Affordability

“One Hot Summer /¡Qué Calor!” Campaign Connects Rising Energy Costs to Civic Engagement

NATIONWIDE — This Earth Day, Poder Latinx is mobilizing communities across seven states through a series of events centered on environmental and climate justice, with a strong focus on energy affordability and the rising cost of living for working families.

From Arizona to Washington state, community members will participate in educational workshops, neighborhood activations, and hands-on events that connect environmental stewardship with everyday challenges, including high utility bills and access to clean, affordable energy. These efforts are part of Poder Latinx’s “One Hot Summer / ¡Qué Calor!” campaign, a year-round initiative designed to transform rising energy costs into community action and civic engagement.

At a time when families across the country are grappling with increasing energy bills and extreme heat, these Earth Day events aim to equip communities with the tools, information, and resources needed to take action, both at home and at the ballot box.

“Earth Day is a reminder that environmental and climate justice are not abstract. They are deeply personal and reflected in what we hear every day from communities across the country,” said Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx. “Through our work, we are helping communities understand how these issues show up in their daily lives—from extreme heat to rising energy bills and the growing pressure on household budgets. That is why energy affordability has become a central priority in our organizing. Through our One Hot Summer/¡Qué Calor!campaign, we are connecting these everyday challenges to civic participation and building the collective power needed to drive lasting change.”

Sánchez added, “This is also an election year, with upcoming primaries and midterm elections in November. Eligible voters across our communities have an opportunity to support leaders who will advance policies that protect our environment, deliver long-term, community-centered climate solutions that prioritize our health and well-being, but also energy affordability for working families.”

Media are invited to attend and cover these events, which will highlight community voices, local leadership, and on-the-ground solutions to one of the most urgent kitchen-table issues facing working families today.
