NATIONWIDE - Today, Poder Latinx launched “Nos Ayuda A Vivir”, a 1.7 million dollar bilingual awareness campaign to educate Latinos about the climate provisions outlined in the Clean Energy Plan and the available resources to help them save money while combating climate change.
The campaign comprises digital content, two public service television spots, and advertising on Spanish-language television in Georgia, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Virginia. It also features an online hub in Spanish and English that provides information on how to apply for tax credits and rebates through the Clean Energy Plan of the Inflation Reduction Act.
"Ahead of Earth Month in April, Poder Latinx is excited to spearhead this initiative and connect with Latino families who continue to experience the negative impacts of climate change. Many of these families are unaware of the benefits provided by the Clean Energy Plan, which can help reduce energy costs, promote the construction of energy-efficient homes and businesses, and offer access to clean job opportunities. The 'Nos Ayuda a Vivir' campaign equips us with tools in both languages to make informed investments and take proactive measures to alleviate the concerning effects of climate change in our daily lives," stated Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director at Poder Latinx.
"When we create the right conditions for our communities, it provides us with peace of mind, knowing that we will have a safer and healthier life. I encourage all Latinos to seize the opportunity presented by this initiative, as it will yield positive and enduring benefits for everyone," she emphasized.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Inflation Reduction Act represents one of the most significant investments in the United States to address climate change, particularly considering the disproportionate impact of extreme weather events on vulnerable populations.
If left unaddressed, Latinos, who are at the forefront of the climate crisis, stand to lose more than any other community. Through this funding, the Clean Energy Plan provides individuals and families rebates of up to $350 per year for energy-efficient home appliance purchases and tax credits of up to $300 per year for home solar installation. Additionally, it generates thousands of new, well-paying jobs in the clean energy sector annually.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Latinos in the U.S. are more likely to experience heatwaves, powerful hurricanes, sea-level rise, and floods because of where they live and work, and this risk will only grow as the planet continues to heat up.
