Poder Latinx Launches Bilingual Accountability Campaign to Lower Energy Costs in Virginia

Digital ads and influencer content urge Virginians to protect clean energy and demand relief on power bills

Virginia– Poder Latinx is proud to launch a $100,000 bilingual advertising and influencer campaign that raises the alarm on surging electricity bills hurting Latino families and all Virginians. This effort is part of the “Nos Ayuda a Vivir” campaign (It Help Us Live), which highlights the real, cost-saving solutions clean energy provides, and calls on Virginians to contact their state and congressional representatives to protect the Clean Energy Plan and lower costs for all.

The “Nos Ayuda a Vivir” campaign was launched in 2024 to raise awareness among the Latino community about the benefits of the Clean Energy Plan, which was a pivotal part of the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).  Although proposed IRA rollbacks were ultimately halted, the campaign continues to advocate for clean energy and lower energy costs, a major concern for Latino families and communities across Virginia.

“Latino families in Virginia are already feeling the worst impacts of climate change, threatening our health, our children’s future, and driving energy costs many households can’t afford. Congressional inaction and the Trump administration’s economic policies are forcing families to pay more just to get by. We cannot afford to keep paying more while getting less.  We need solutions that tackle climate change while lowering costs,” said Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director for Poder Latinx.

Affordable clean energy must reach first and foremost the neighborhoods facing the highest pollution and the highest bills. Virginia has the resources to do this right here at home, creating jobs, strengthening our economy, protecting public health, and lowering costs.

Poder Latinx is calling on Latino families to make their voices heard and urge local elected officials to invest in clean, affordable energy, reduce pollution, clean up our air, and deliver real relief from high electricity bills to the communities most impacted.
