Poder Latinx Honors the Life of John Lewis With Digital Events To Discuss Intersectionality
WHAT: Join us to honor the life and legacy of Congressman John Lewis with digital events for communities in Florida and Georgia, as well as a national panel discussing voting rights in the wake of his death.
Following the record breaking Black, Brown and youth voter turnout in elections across the U.S. in 2020 and the critical upset in Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoffs in early 2021, state legislatures across America released an offensive onslaught of undemocratic legislation designed to specifically suppress the votes of communities of color, including the Latinx voting bloc.
“John Lewis’ legacy here in Georgia is present in all of the work we do. He carved out a pathway for generations of organizers for years to come, and we’ll keep fighting to preserve his work,” said Susi Durán, Georgia state director for Poder Latinx.
