Poder Latinx Announces IV Poderosas Fellowship Cohort: 25 New Fellows From 11 States Join The Civic Leadership Program

Washington, D.C. – Poder Latinx is proud to announce the selection of 25 outstanding young Latinas from 11 states as the newest members of the IV Poderosas Fellowship cohort, offering an unparalleled civic leadership and development opportunity designed to train these young women to become influential civic leaders in their communities.  The new cohort kicks off today and will run until April 2025.

The Poderosas Fellowship is a transformative program aimed at empowering young Latinas across key electoral states to use civic engagement tools to increase voter participation in their communities, actively engage in democracy, and take on key roles in politics and policy-making. Through comprehensive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, fellows are prepared to inspire and mobilize their communities to advocate for positive change.

"We are thrilled to welcome our fourth cohort of Poderosas Fellows," said Yadira Sanchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx. "This group of dynamic young women represents not just the future, but the present of our communities. At Poder Latinx, we recognize the crucial role young Latinas play in shaping a more inclusive and just society. By providing them with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities for successful civic leadership and democratic participation, we are investing in the architects of change. Their enthusiasm and commitment to civic leadership come at a pivotal moment, as we prepare for an electoral year that will define our nation's future. We have immense hope and confidence in what they will achieve, both during the fellowship and as they continue to lead and inspire in their communities."

A highlight of the fellowship will be the Poderosas Legislative Summit this Fall, when the Poderosas fellows will convene in Washington, D.C. for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage directly with national leaders, discuss key issues affecting the Latinx community, and gain invaluable insights into the legislative process. Designed to transform their perspectives and deepen their commitment to civic participation and leadership, this experience will serve as a beacon of empowerment for young Latinas, equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

As these 25 new fellows embark on their journey, we look forward to the positive impact they will have in shaping a more inclusive and representative democracy.  The fellows represent communities in Arizona, California, North Carolina, Nevada, Washington, District of Columbia/Virginia, Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, Texas and Illinois.
