Newly established Latinx political organization rapidly establishes a presence, registering over 7500 voters in FL in just months

WASHINGTON, DC – Poder Latinx, a cutting-edge civic and social justice organization headed by Executive Directors Esteban Garces and Yadira Sanchez, has come onto the political scene hitting the ground running. Organizers have already made a mark after registering more than 7,500 voters in their first voter registration drive in Central Florida. The Poder Latinx approach to voter engagement is intimately linked to organizing programs that encourage justice for women workers, immigrants, and the climate.

The new political organization will register 51,000 Latinx voters and make 400,000 door knock attempts by-election day 2020 in Central Florida alone. The organization is in discussions to expand its presence into Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia. Their focus will be on voter activation and mobilization, community organizing, and leadership development for 2020 and beyond. Poder Latinx’ mission is to build a political wave where Latinx communities, immigrants, and people of color are decision-makers in this country’s democracy.

“Our dedicated and hard-working team in Central Florida is phenomenal! We set the bar high and we are on track to register more Latinx voters than ever in this region in any given cycle. Couple that with our focused organizing campaigns, we are establishing a footprint and presence that undoubtedly positions us to realize our mission,” explained Garces.

“Our Florida team is powered by mujeres poderosas! Our team of 60 in Orlando and Kissimmee (including Orange, Osceola, and Lake Counties) includes personnel who are over 90 percent  Latina and 100 percent Latinx! These team members live in our communities, have experienced our issues, and most importantly inspire new and seasoned voters enough to bring back hope after we have seen our families separated, our kids put in cages, and our communities shot down,” said Sanchez.

Poder Latinx is represented by a formidable board of progressive champions that include the Ana Marie Argilagos, President of Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP), Donald Cravins, Vice President of Policy and External Affairs at Charter Communications, Inc, Ronald “Ron” Estrada, Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Empowerment for Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), Carol Joyner, Director of the Labor Project for Working Families in partnership with Family Values at Work, and Melissa Vargas, Diverse Engagement & Partnerships for the Environmental Defense Fund.
