Poder Latinx Kicks off Latinx Heritage Month Celebration

NATIONWIDE - Latinx Heritage Month is an annual celebration observed from September 15th through October 15th. Poder Latinx will spend this time honoring the Latinx community and continue building its political power with a month of virtual and in-person activities to celebrate the heritage and contributions of Latinxs of diverse backgrounds and focus on the theme of Latinx unity. Events will include voter registration drives in local communities, webinars featuring artists from Poder Latinx’s Galería de Colores, several virtual events organized and hosted by Poder Latinx’s Poderosas fellows, and more.

Poder Latinx has released the following statement on Latinx Heritage Month:

“At Poder Latinx, we empower the Latinx community year-round - hosting citizenship drives, registering the community to vote, raising awareness of legislation that would directly impact Latinxs, and anything else we can do to be the best advocates possible while providing the tools and resources for Latinxs to advocate for themselves. Latinx Heritage Month allows us to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The Latinx community is resilient, we are diverse, and we are united in our efforts. This month, we are celebrating our rich history and cultures and continuing to pass on our values and traditions to the next generation of Latinx voters. This month allows us to place a special spotlight on our unique political backgrounds, cultures, and heritage while bringing us together as a unified front to make our voices heard within our democracy. This Latinx Heritage Month, we call on all Latinx eligible voters to register to vote and bring 3 friends or family members to the polls with you,” said Yadira Sanchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx.
