Latino Voters Showed Their Power Through Participation

Poder Latinx’s robust civic engagement program drives record Latino turnout and visibility across seven states

Today, we celebrate something far greater than election results, we celebrate the growing civic power of the Latino community. Yesterday’s elections are a wake-up call for every elected leader: Latino voters are organized, informed, and shaping the future of this country.

Over the past year, Poder Latinx has built one of the most robust civic engagement operations in the nation,  educating voters, protecting our planet, and uplifting Latino voices across seven states. From knocking on doors and hosting community dialogues to mobilizing voters at events and online, our team worked tirelessly to ensure every voter understood what was at stake and felt empowered to make their voices heard at the polls.

Launched on César Chávez Day, our Moving People to Action program has proven that deep, relational organizing moves people, and power. Through our organizers and volunteers, we’ve registered thousands of Latino voters and held tens of thousands of one-on-one conversations with community members who know that policy isn’t abstract, it’s personal. It’s about the cost of electricity, the safety of our families, affordable childcare, clean air and water, paid family leave, and freedom from fear.

From California’s Central Valley to Georgia’s Cobb and Gwinnett counties, from the city halls of Washington state to communities across Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia, Poder Latinx has shown what happens when we meet people where they are, in their homes, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods, and turn conversations into action.

Our work doesn’t stop on Election Day. We are building sustained civic participation, creating a pipeline of leaders and voters who will continue to hold power, not just during election cycles, but every day in between.

Across the country, from statewide commissions to local councils, decisions are being made that directly impact how our families live, work, and thrive. Poder Latinx is proving that when our community is informed and engaged, we don’t just participate, we set the agenda.

“Our movement is redefining civic participation,” said Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx. “From day one, our goal has been to build a program that reaches people where they are, at the doors, at community events, online, and in conversation. Latino voters are paying attention, they’re organizing, and they’re leading. This is what power looks like, and we’re just getting started.”
