NATIONWIDE — Poder Latinx is harnessing the power of culture and community with the launch of two dynamic PSAs featuring iconic Afro-Latina superhero La Borinqueña, urging Latino communities to demand that Congress protect vital clean energy and climate investments.
The launch comes at a critical time, when the U.S. Senate is reviewing a reconciliation bill that threatens to dismantle key provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), including clean energy tax credits, solar rebates, and green job incentives that directly benefit Latino and working-class families.
As part of Poder Latinx’s Nos Ayuda a Vivir initiative, the PSAs highlight how clean energy solutions are already helping Latino families save money and reduce pollution in their neighborhoods.
“Our legislators have both the power and the responsibility to protect incentives that are helping working-class and Latino households. Any rollbacks would stifle clean energy job growth and block access to affordable energy solutions in the very communities that need them most,” said Yadira Sanchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx. “Investing in our environment, fighting climate change, and improving public health is an investment in our collective future. It’s time for Congress to look beyond short-sighted political divisions and act in the interest of every American family.”
Poder Latinx partnered once again with award-winning graphic novelist Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez and his Somos Arte studio to amplify La Borinqueña’s message.
“Our superhero series La Borinqueña has always told stories that are grounded in real world issues that affect us all. She is a champion for social and environmental justice and now her message comes to life in these animated shorts voiced by the talented Cherry Torres. Our hope is that La Borinqueña inspires all to take advantage of these environmental provisions to help our communities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Together we can embrace a superpower that can not only save us money, but save our planet.”
The stakes are high. Latinos already make up nearly one-third of the U.S. solar workforce and are key to building a just, clean energy future. If the Senate follows the House's lead in gutting the IRA, these cuts could begin as early as 2029—jeopardizing jobs, progress, and equity.
Poder Latinx urges the community to take action: call your Senators and demand they protect the Inflation Reduction Act and the future of clean energy for Latino families nationwide.
