KISSIMMEE - An estimated 1.7 million people live in households with at least one TPS holder or TPS-eligible individual. Temporary Protected Status has shown that protection from deportation and access to work authorization provides significant benefits for immigrant families, allowing them to improve their economic condition, keep their families together, and fully participate in their local communities.

One of Poder Latinx’s key issues is immigrant justice, including advocacy for TPS holders and a pathway to citizenship. Poder Latinx will be presenting a conversation with immigration lawyer, Ingrid Morfa, to discuss the state of TPS and answer questions from community members to learn more about eligibility requirements. NATIONWIDE - Latinx and youth voters were decisive voting blocs in the outcomes of the 2022 races across the country. This midterm election cycle had the second-highest youth voter turnout in the past three decades, and Latinx voters, the second-largest group of voting-age Americans, affirmed their power as a crucial voter demographic. Final voter turnout numbers will be officially reported in February or March when voter file records are updated. According to the 2022 Midterm Election Voter Poll, conducted by the African American Research Collaborative, inflation and gas prices, cost of health care, and abortion rights were top priorities for voters, with strong support for policies to address these issues.

ORLANDO - Latinos are on the frontline of pollution and extreme weather, and with climate change worsening by the day, the ability to reduce emissions and expand clean energy is essential to the well-being of our community. 

Poder Latinx and Chispa Florida amplify environmental justice efforts as a main issue affecting the Latinx community, with organizational stances that all people deserve clean air, clean water, and healthy lives. The two civic engagement organizations are joining forces to bring awareness to the climate crisis while taking action to clean up local community parks. 

Poder Latinx and Chispa invite volunteers to participate in a park clean up of La Costa Urban West Land Park to beautify public spaces in the Central Florida area.

ORLANDO - The Latinx community is one of the hardest hit by inequitable pay, access to healthcare, paid leave programs, and affordable childcare. Latinas who face the brunt of child care responsibilities are the lowest paid demographic in the country and are often pushed out of the workforce. 

One of Poder Latinx’s key issues is working on economic justice, including a campaign for Paid Leave for All to secure a sustainable national paid leave program across the country. One of the first steps in this advocacy effort is making sure the community is educated on paid leave and its current state. Poder Latinx will host a community movie screening for the film “Zero Weeks,” highlighting America’s paid leave crisis.

NORCROSS, GA - Poder Latinx is hosting ‘Latinas to the Polls,’ an event to empower Latinas ahead of runoff elections to find their voice in their vote. The event will center around a caravan to the polls, featuring Latina speakers and community leaders. Breakfast will be provided, and attendees will receive car magnets to decorate their cars to show their orgullo Latino on the way to the polls. The procession will begin in the parking lot of Poder Latinx’s office and take voters to Lucky Shoals Park Community Recreation Center, an early voting polling location.
