Poder Latinx Reflects on Biden-Harris Administration’s
1st Year in Office
WASHINGTON – President Biden and Vice-President Harris have put a bold and progressive agenda at the forefront of their administration in their first year in office, both successfully undoing many of the Trump administration’s previous efforts, and getting America back on track. While we appreciate the social reforms that the administration has succeeded in passing, we are disappointed that some elected officials are blocking further progress that the Latinx community needs. We must and will continue to hold our elected officials accountable.
The following statement on the Biden-Harris Administration’s first year in the White House is attributed to Yadira Sanchez, co-executive director of Poder Latinx.
“After reviewing the Biden-Harris administration’s year in office, we are ready to continue pushing the administration on the policies that our community needs most right now. Because of the administration’s efforts, the Latinx community across the United States has benefitted from investments like the Child Tax Credit, increased environmental protections, and COVID-19 protocol, but there is still much work to do. We understand that this must be a unified effort, and there are elected officials holding back Biden’s agenda and not acting in the best interest of the people. This needs to stop as the 117th Congress convenes for its second session and as we gear up for the midterm elections. All of our branches of government should cooperate for the betterment of American society, not force elected officials to make concessions solely based on political party values. The Republican Party is holding our community back from the policies that could benefit us the most. Americans deserve basic necessities and the opportunity to thrive in the land of the free, home of the brave. At Poder Latinx, we will continue contributing to collective advocacy work to assist in securing victories for the Latinx community, informing our community on the issues that are important to them, and ahead of the midterm elections registering 35,000 Latinx voters.”
