Poder Latinx Joins 'Paid Leave for All Workers & Care Can't Wait: Roundtable Discussion'

WHAT: Round table discussion with Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh alongside those most deeply impacted in Arizona. Secretary Walsh will join a roundtable discussion on the need for a robust federal paid family and medical leave program with workers, advocates and faith community members, including Corazon Arizona, the United Farmworkers of America, LUCHA and Poder Latinx. St. Matthew’s Church will host the discussion. The pandemic will have long-term impacts on Arizona’s health, caregiving needs, and economic stability. Poder Latinx participants will be available for interviews preceding the event.

Women were hit hardest by the pandemic, especially Black, Latinx, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), and indigenous mothers.

Over 17,000 Arizonans lost their lives to COVID-19. Our undocumented essential workers were not included in any of the state pandemic relief funds. Essential workers and small business owners in our state were on the front lines, had the highest exposure risks, and were forced to manage caregiving needs with closures. Arizonan women make up half of the workforce.
