Poder Latinx Demands Fair and Just Treatment for Migrants Amid Political Maneuvering, Highlights the Urgency of Humanity in Immigration Policies

Washington, DC - In response to the recent bipartisan agreement proposed by U.S. Sens. James Lankford (R-OK), Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), allocating $118 billion for foreign aid to Ukraine and Israel while simultaneously advocating for radical immigration and anti-asylum policies in the U.S.-Mexico border, Poder Latinx issues a call to action to lawmakers and the Biden administration to prioritize humanity over political tactics.

Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx, emphasizes the urgent need for lawmakers to set aside political agendas and uphold the core values of justice and solidarity in shaping immigration policy.

“Poder Latinx vehemently opposes the exploitation of migrants and refugees as mere bargaining chips in political negotiations. Instead, we advocate for policies rooted in compassion, dignity, and human rights for every individual, irrespective of nationality or immigration status.  We must afford migrants and refugees a fair chance at the southern border, ensuring their well-being and protection while upholding their rights without compromise. We urge lawmakers and the Biden administration to take decisive action under these principles, putting an end to the politicization of immigration and prioritizing the humanitarian needs of those seeking refuge.”
