Poder Latinx Condemns ICE Raid at Hyundai Plant in Georgia
Atlanta, GA– Poder Latinx strongly condemns Thursday’s ICE raid at the Hyundai plant in Georgia, considered the largest workplace immigration raid in recent U.S. history, after nearly 500 workers were arrested. This action is a blatant attack on immigrant workers and families, carried out to serve a political agenda rooted in white nationalism, racism, and xenophobia. Beyond its cruelty, the raid will cause deep harm to Georgia’s economy and destabilize entire communities.
“Immigrants are the backbone of Georgia’s economy and of our nation,” said Yadira Sánchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx. “This raid is not about justice or security, but fear and hate. We will not allow extremist politicians to scapegoat immigrants while families suffer and communities are torn apart. We call on state leaders, companies like Hyundai, and federal agencies to recognize the dignity of immigrant labor, to stand with immigrant workers, defend our families and to end practices that punish the very people who drive Georgia’s prosperity.”
“This raid will devastate not only the families directly targeted, but also the surrounding communities that depend on these workers,” said Leslie Palomino, Georgia State Director at Poder Latinx. “Local businesses, schools, and churches will all feel the ripple effects. Georgia relies on immigrant labor to thrive, and tearing families apart for political gain puts our entire state’s future at risk.”
Poder Latinx reaffirms its commitment to immigrant communities in Georgia and across the country, continuing to fight for dignity, protection, and justice for all.
