Poder Latinx Celebrates Senate Confirmation of Judge Jackson
WASHINGTON, DC - Poder Latinx celebrates the historical confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to going on recess, the Senate conducted a vote that resulted in a 53-47 confirmation of Judge Jackson. She will be the first Black woman and former public defender to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States.
Poder Latinx has released the following statement on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation:
“Today marks a historic win for women of color across the United States. Judge Jackson’s confirmation serves as an important reminder that women of color can reach new heights and historical markers, and as a young Latina, I am proud to see a strong, qualified Black woman in this position, and know what her confirmation to the Supreme Court will mean for generations of girls for years to come.
Since the announcement of Judge Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court, we have faced a long but fruitful journey to have her confirmed for this seat. With the Supreme Court slated to have one of the most historically consequential dockets to date in upcoming months, we need someone like Judge Jackson to serve on the court. As a country, we will benefit from her experienced decision-making through her commitment to public service, impartiality, and equal justice. Throughout her entire professional career, Justice Jackson has been making history. As she continues to break the mold, she is paving the way for a more equitable and diverse future for everyone. Poder Latinx is proud to continue standing in support of Justice Jackson’s inspiring new role and what the future has in store for the Supreme Court,” said Yadira Sanchez, executive director of Poder Latinx.
