Poder Latinx Celebrates a Victory for Immigration Justice and Prepares to Support for the Road Ahead
National - Following President Biden’s announcement today on immigration that would grant new protections and support to over half a million undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens and DACA beneficiaries, Poder Latinx joins in the celebration of this significant milestone. It has been 12 years since we saw a move toward immigration justice–when DACA was passed by the Obama administration.
This executive action is expected to grant peace of mind to “half a million spouses of U.S. citizens and approximately 50,000 noncitizen children,” making this a major win for immigration justice and a step toward keeping families together.

“This victory brings justice to hundreds of thousands of immigrant spouses and, most importantly, keeps our families together. Poder Latinx applauds President Biden's leadership in championing inclusivity, progress, and hope, recognizing the immense value immigrant communities bring in strengthening and enriching our nation. This is a major win for progressive advocates who have fiercely fought for these protections but have faced the barriers of the continued inaction from Congress which has remained at a stalemate for the past 12 years.
This moment ignites enthusiasm and hope among our hard-working immigrant community, and at Poder Latinx, we will build from this momentum to continue to empower and educate our Latino community. However, the fight for immigration justice is far from over. We must stand together to combat anti-immigrant rhetoric and continue recognizing the immense contributions immigrants make to our economy, our communities, and the diversity and dreams that define our nation. Let’s use our political power. Let’s register and vote, electing champions at all levels of government who can finish the work and give our immigrant communities the protections and quality of life that we all deserve.”
