RGV Latinas: The Power In Our Vote

RGV Latinas: The Power In Our Vote

By Vianey Preciado, Texas State Director

As we close off the celebrations for Women’s History Month, I want to create space and honor the strength and leadership of Latina women in the Rio Grande Valley. Our voices and our votes shape the future of our communities—driving progress in social justice, economic equity, and environmental protection.

In the RGV, Latinas are a powerful and growing force, yet too often, our voices are overlooked in decisions made in Washington and Austin. When we vote, we demand better services and opportunities for ourselves and our families.

We know that our votes allow us to put leaders in office who truly represent us and the future we want to create for our loved ones. To vote for those who understand our challenges and are committed to real change.

Economic inequities remain a pressing issue. Many Latinas in the RGV face wage gaps, limited job opportunities, and the struggle of balancing work and family. By voting for policies that promote equal pay, affordable childcare, and job security, we can help create a fairer, more prosperous future. But that is not the only aspect we have in mind when we vote.

Environmental issues also impact our daily lives, from polluted air and water to the growing threats of climate change.

Our votes can elect leaders who will also fight for stronger environmental protections to safeguard the land and resources we depend on.

Women’s History Month serves as a reminder that our vote is our power. Let’s stand together, raise our voices, and shape the future of the Rio Grande Valley—one vote at a time. ¡Sí se puede!
