Thank you for your interest in attending the 2023 Poderosas Legislative Summit. Scholarship opportunities are available for young Latinas experiencing economic hardship who would like to attend this event. Registration is free for all participants and the Poderosas Legislative Summit Scholarship will cover registration, lodging, transportation, and meals for scholarship recipients. Please complete the following application, as this helps us determine your need and allows for us to be good stewards with our limited financial resources.

Please note that submission of an application does not guarantee a scholarship, but we will do everything we can to support qualified emerging Latina civic leaders with demonstrated financial need. Applications will be reviewed in a rolling basis.

  • The Poderosas Legislative Summit Scholarship is offered to exceptional emerging Latina civic leaders who are committed to positive social change and who are already making an impact in their communities. The scholarship is available for young Latinas experiencing economic hardship with the purpose of covering any costs associated with attending the 2023 Poderosas Legislative Summit.

    The Poderosas Legislative Summit Scholarship Award includes a ticket to attend the Poderosas Legislative Summit and Reception on Friday, October 6 and the Poderosas Day of Action on Saturday, October 7. The scholarship also includes transportation to and from Washington, D.C., two nights of lodging at a 4-star hotel, and meals during all three days of the summit. Poderosas Legislative Summit Scholarship recipients also receive access to exclusive learning, action, and networking opportunities.

  • Through the Poderosas Legislative Summit and Poderosas Legislative Summit Scholarship, our vision is to support Latina civic leaders, at various points in their careers and development, to build the necessary skills, knowledge, and networks to be impactful leaders in their community. Please note that there is no one thing that we will be looking for when selecting scholarship recipients, but candidates who meet the majority of the criteria included below will be the strongest candidates. We highly encourage you to apply for this scholarship opportunity, even if you do not meet all of the criteria below.

    Requirements:

    • Latina/x, including English and Spanish speakers and first, second, and third+generation

    • Women, non-binary, or otherwise underrepresented gender

    • Youth or young adult (18-35 years old)

    • Passionate about building power within the Latinx community, protecting democracy and voting rights, civic engagement, community organizing, advocacy, social justice, environmental justice, immigrant justice, economic justice, and/or other solutions and issues impacting the Latinx community.

    • Able to attend all three days of the Poderosas Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C., from Friday, October 6- Saturday, October 7, 2022

    • Demonstrated financial need

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • From Arizona, California, Washington, Texas, Georgia, Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina or Florida

    • Previously or currently involved with Poder Latinx, as a volunteer, intern, fellow, employee, partner, action-taker, event participant, or active social media follower

    • Experience in civic engagement, community organizing, or a related field

    • Experience working with Latinx or underrepresented communities

    • Experience volunteering, interning, or working with an organization or community group

    • Demonstrated leadership experience

    • Awards or recognition for leadership, civic engagement, or community organizing

    • Registered to vote (if eligible)

    • Coursework in Latinx studies, civic engagement, or a related field

    • Strong GPA

    • Strong letter of recommendation, resume, and thoughtful responses in the application

  • Please complete this application by filling out the form below. The application will take approximately one hour to complete, and asks a variety of short- and long-answer questions. To prepare for the application, please review the questions included in the application form in advance. We highly recommend that you prepare your responses to the long-answer questions on a separate document so that, in the event of a technical difficulty, your answers are not lost. In the application form, you will also be prompted to attach your resume and either a letter of recommendation or the contact information of one or more references. This can be an employer, teacher, colleague, peer, friend, family member, neighbor, or anyone who can vouch for your leadership skills, experience in the civic and social justice movement, and/or passion for empowering the Latinx community through this work.
